Leader of The Independent Group

Independent Councillor for Hoo & High Halstow Ward

Chairman of High Halstow Parish Council

Independent Councillor on High Halstow Parish Council

George moved to Hoo as an eight-year-old in the 1950s and went to school in the village.  He has lived in High Halstow since 1980 with wife Jane and is where they raised their sons Matthew and Tom.

Although now retired, George worked for much of his life in the recruitment industry – helping people to find suitable work and fulfilling careers.

George was a founding member of local group the Friends of the North Kent Marshes and has passionately campaigned to protect the Hoo Peninsula for many years.  He also co-founded the Deangate Community Partnership in 2018 when the golf course closed – calling for the site to be protected from development.

George has been a Independent Parish Councillor in High Halstow since 1995 and became its Chairman in 2000.  In December 2022 he topped the poll in the Peninsula Ward by-election and was elected as an Independent to serve on Medway Council.

George is a member of local drama group Dramarama and loves live music – he’s a sound engineer and photographer for his son’s band The Redfords – a popular Kent wedding band.  He is also a trustee for local homeless charity AMAT UK and the Friends of St. Margaret’s Church.
