Michael has lived in Hoo his whole life and attended St Werburgh Primary School and the Hundred of Hoo Secondary School, as well as the sixth form, in the village.
Michael co-founded Village Voices Publishing (the Village Voices Community Magazine and the Strood & Hoo Peninsula Times) in 2012 and has worked as a full-time IT engineer since 2010. Michael left Village Voices Publishing in 2023 to concentrate on his Unitary Authority (Medway Council) Councillor duties.
Michael co-formed the Hoo Clean Up litter-picking group in 2012 and still co-manages this monthly community litter pick. He also co-founded the local history group the Thomas Aveling Society in 2014 and is a key part of the group’s annual Thomas Aveling Birthday Celebration community event.
Having studied horticulture at Hadlow College, Michael is a keen gardener and allotment holder, volunteering whenever possible in the village.
Michael has served as an Independent Parish Councillor on Hoo Parish Council since 2013 and is an outspoken advocate for the local community. He has an active interest in the history and wildlife of the Hoo Peninsula and wider Kent. He enjoys getting out and about to visit sites managed by English Heritage and the National Trust, as well as many local and national nature reserves.
