Cllr. Ron Sands (Independent) Cllr. Ron Sands (Independent)

The Independent Group Whip

Independent Councillor for Hoo & High Halstow Ward

Chairman of Hoo & Chattenden Parish Council

Independent Councillor on Hoo & Chattenden Parish Council

Ron has lived in Hoo all his life.  He was born at Tile Barn Farm (now Angel Farm) and went to school in the village.

Although now retired, Ron served in the Army during the 1960s and 1970s and in later life worked for JCB (in spare parts and distribution).

In 2011 Ron was elected to Hoo Parish Council as an Independent and became its Chairman in 2021.  He topped the poll in the local election for Peninsula Ward in 2019 when he was elected as an Independent to serve on Medway Council.

In 2012 Ron founded the Hands Off Hoo campaign group which has fought against local mass housing development, including successfully defeating proposals in 2015 and 2016 for 500 homes between Chattenden and Hoo.

Ron co-founded the Deangate Community Partnership in 2018 when the golf course closed – calling for the site to be protected from development.  In 2020 he established the very popular monthly Hoo Armed Forces and Veterans’ Breakfast Club – meeting at Taggs Coffee Shop in Hoo.

Ron, together with partner Dawn, became proud grandparents to Bodhi in 2022 and he takes his granddad duties very seriously – daughter Chloe makes sure of it!
